The objective of this assignment was to find a quote from a TV show or a movie with a duration of 15-30 seconds and visually bring the quote to life. The quote I chose was the monologue to the opening of season 1 of the TV show “Rhoda”.
Tools Used
StoryBoard Layout
This was my original storyboard for how I wanted to animate for my kinetic typography assignment. I wanted my type and colors to have a feminine touch since the TV show Rhoda was aimed towards the female audience like myself.
Quote Inspiration
Rhoda Morgenstern was orginally a character on The Mary Tyler Moore show before getting her own spinoff TV show. For those who don’t know, Rhoda was a TV show that aired on CBS from 1974-1978. The intro to the show varies every season. I decided to do my kinetic typography assignment based on the Season 1 opening of the TV show “Rhoda” Her monologue tells her life story and how she became the person she is. Valerie Harper who played Rhoda passed away in 2019 and wanted to dedicate her acting by visually bringing her monologue to life.
Animation Process
After I had finished illustrating my illustrations for my kinetic type, I had begun animating my piece based on the 15-30 seconds given to create this kinetic type. As you can see I had nested certain scenes into separate compostions to combine them into one whole video.
Final Kinetic Typography Piece
After days and hours of putting my heart into this animation piece, I finally managed to animate something that I can be considered proud. In the end, the biggest challenge I faced with was coming up with assets and placing them where I would like them, along with creating different transitions through the kinetic type. But other than that, I am quite pleased with the outcome of my kinetic type.
