The purpose of this project was to set up a social media campaign to not only launch a podcast but to bring awareness of the dangers of opioids and how harmful it can impact not only individuals but the individuals families as well.
I worked with fellow public health student, Kelsey Vargas, who was working towards her masters degree in public health. She gave me some insights on opioid addiction and mentioned that the main demographic impacted by opioids were mainly the US Veterans. I wanted to learn more about opioids, so I conducted some further research on the topic that would be useful in launching my social media campaign.
How I was of help?
While Kelsey’s purpose was to provide research on opioids, my purpose was to create visual graphics that will draw the audience’s attention to like and follow the page as well as engagement in the podcast. I had created both a facebook page and an instagram name under the name “Behind the Opioid Crisis” (Kelsey came up with the name, not me).
Since I created social media accounts two weeks prior to the launch of Kelsey’s podcast, I wanted to post at least one fact about opioids per day based on Kelsey’s research paper provided in hopes of gaining more likes and followers throughout social media as much as possible. I plan on keeping up with the social media accounts up until the launch of Kelsey’s podcast.
Success Criteria
My initial outcome of this project was based on
Obtaining at least 50 likes on Facebook
Maintaining at least 25 listeners to the podcast
Meeting and accomplishing Kelsey’s standard needs for her NEIT Masters Public Health Program
As of December 8, 2020, the success criteria of this project are
10 followers on Instagram
19 likes on Facebook
40 likes on the first Instagram post
Conclusion
Though there were some ups and downs along the way, I managed to keep myself together without falling apart. As a graphic designer in training, the social media campaign was definitely an eye opener to help advance my design skills. The social media campaign helped meet Kelsey’s standards needs for her masters degree program in public health at New England Institute of Technology. So in a way, it was a win win on our ends.
The social media campaign helped me get a better sense of how posting content on social media attracts the audience based on the appropriate colors, typography, and graphics chosen.
